이 작업은 고대 로마의 집단적 해방 의례와 제주 무속의 공동체적 치유 의식에서 영감을 받아 제작되었다. 고대 로마의 신 바쿠스를 기리던 축제 ‘바카날리아’는 원래 여성들만의 비밀스러운 의례로 시작되었으며, 참가자들은 사회적 금기로부터 벗어나 술과 춤을 통해 억눌린 욕망을 해방시키는 경험을 공유했다. 한편 제주굿의 석살림 제차에서 심방(무당)이 부르는 서우젯소리는 굿판에 모인 이들을 하나로 모으며, 참여자들은 함께 춤을 추며 마음속 응어리와 한을 풀어낸다. 이 작품은 이 두 전통 의식의 공통된 해방과 환희의 순간을 사적인 카타르시스의 시선으로 담아내고자 한다.      

 

This video work draws inspiration from the collective liberation rituals of ancient Rome and the communal healing practices of Jeju shamanism. The Roman festival Bacchanalia, originally a secret ritual for women, provided a space where participants could temporarily escape societal constraints and experience liberation through drinking and dancing. In a similar vein, during the Seoksallim phase of Jeju gut, when the shaman (shimbang) sings the Seoujet-sori, all those gathered at the gut performance come together to dance, releasing emotional burdens and experiencing a moment of collective catharsis. This work seeks to capture these shared moments of release and ecstasy, reframing them through a personal lens of catharsis.
